August 1, 2016 (Wortham, Texas) – Freestone County Raceway, L.L.C. is pleased to announce the 17th Annual AMA FMF Texas Winter Series (TWS) schedule. The season kicks off every year on the Freestone Raceway national track New Years Eve weekend and 2017 is no exception. It is also exciting to announced the new order of venues along with welcoming a new track into the series.
The series kicks on December 31, 2016 through January 1, 2017 at Freestone Raceway with round 2 at Swan Raceway MX Park on January 7th and 8th. Village Creek MX Park has been moved up to round 3 on the weekend of January 21st and 22nd.
We are please to welcome to the series Johnsonville MX Farm for round 4 on February 4th and 5th. April and Cole Johnson have worked to bring a backyard feel to the Loretta Lynn qualifiers in recent years showing their ability to provide a racing surface worthy of being a part of the AMA Texas Winter Series. The series will then conclude with round 5 at Freestone Raceway on February 25th and 26th. The final round at Freestone also serves as the warm-up race to the James Stewart AMA Spring Championship in March.
The format for the series has been the same for 17 years. All small bikes race their 2-moto format on Saturday with the big bikes racing their 2 moto’s on Sunday. Just like racing in the summer, it takes a lot of will and concentration to meet the demands of the weather and competition. There is no denying it can get quite brutal during the AMA Texas Winter Series but when you look at the history of the series, you see why so many riders are up to meet the challenge. From Beginner classes to huge Vet classes and everything in between, the Texas Winter Series gives you someone to race with no matter what place you are in.
The average attendance was over 700 entries per round in 2016. The TWS stands as the only “AMA Features Series” in state. With every manufacturer supporting the series, it’s no wonder the AMA Texas Winter Series is known as the ROUGHEST, TOUGHEST, LARGEST, RICHEST ………… Funnest series in Texas. Mark your calendars now!
